Ciudad Perdida (The Lost City), also known as Teyuna and located at 1,200m, is an old indigenous town of the already disappeared Tayrona civilization. It was build in the 8th century AC and discovered by guaqueros (grave robbers) in 1973. Teyuna is part of the more than 250 old towns we can find in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia north region. It is believed that around 8.000 people lived there until conquerors arrived and indigenous people were forced to abandon their lands.
The journey that is detailed ahead is a beautiful rout of approximately 50 Km in which travellers will be able to enjoy forest, rivers, mountains, and ancient sacred places still preserved by the four indigenous ethnics groups that inhabit the region (Wiwas, Koguis, Kancuamos and Aruacos).
The trip starts at 9:30 AM in Santa Marta. At the meeting point we will take a 4×4 vehicle in which we will travel for about two and a half hours to El Mamey. There, we will have lunch and start a hike that will take us to the first camp where we will be able to enjoy rivers, natural pools and waterfalls. In the evening we will have dinner and then, have some rest on the beds or hammocks available.
By car: 2.5 hours.
By foot: 4 hours.
We will have breakfast and then start our way through the forest and mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and we will arrived to the valley of the Buritica river. There, we will see the traditional Kogui homes. After four hours walking, where we will enjoy stories and a beautiful landscape, we will reach camp No.2, where we will have lunch, rest in the afternoon and spend the night. Dinner.

After breakfast, we will go by the Buritica riverbank and be able to enjoy its natural pools and wells. Ahead, we will cross the river and continue by a beautiful indigenous path, where we will be able to see traces left by the ancient inhabitants of the region. It will take us a four hours hike, approximately, to reach camp No.3, where we will have lunch. During the afternoon, we will be able to rest and go around the campsite. Dinner.
Duration: 3 hours
After a space for dialogue and have breakfast, we will continue our journey by crossing the river and start our ascent of about 1.200 steps that were built for the ancient Tayrona civilization. This we will fill us of the magic and energy that our ancestors imposed upon this place. Once we reach the highest point, we will watch the terraces and walk on this sacred place while listen to tales and stories about the region, told by our guides. Here, we will have enough time to take photos, contemplate the landscape, breath and be thankful; given this is a place of high vibrations.
After enjoy Ciudad Perdida, we will descend through the same path, which lead us to camp No.2, where we will have dinner and spend the night.
Duration: 4 hours.
After an early breakfast, we will continue our way to camp No.1. We will go back through the Kogui town, Mutanshi, and later on, we will have lunch. Then, we will carry on with our hike toward camp No.1, where we will have dinner and spend the night.
Duration: 2 hours.
Our last day-trip, starts sharing, around breakfast, our thoughts of the previous day, to then, walk back to El Mamey, place where we initiated our journey. There, we will enjoy the landscape, rivers, and waterfalls; also, we be able to have a bath in the refreshing waters, if desire. After we enjoy the magic experience of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, we will have lunch and then, go back to Santa Marta, place where our journey ends. Estimated arrival time to Santa Marta: 5:00 PM.
ETA Santa Marta: 5:00 pm.

Walking through those sacred mountains was a magical and important experience for my life.
The entire tour is very beautiful, especially from the second day on. Arriving to Ciudad Perdida after three days of hiking was a present I will never forget. The energy you can feel in this place is wonderful.
