See the beautiful landscapes of El Tuparro National Park. Navigate through gigantic rivers, get to know the vast plain with its beautiful tepúyeses and be amazed by the landscapes of this territory
Between the Orinoco, Tuparro and Tomo Rivers, in the department of Vichada is the National Park El Tuparro. It is a magic place that combines flats, jungle, rivers, beaches, indigenous cultures and beautiful rocky formations. This park is declared a Nature Reserve and listed as the world’s eighth wonder by the German explorer Alexander Von Humboldt, this is a place privileged by the beauty of its geography and for the vast biological diversity that its ecosystems have.
The proposed experience is magical journey through the rivers of this National Park where we will have the opportunity to bathe in its waters, go around its flats, cam in its golden beaches, watch animals, climb Tupeyes, visit indigenous communities and enjoy the typical gastronomy of the region. These activities will allow us to live and breathe in the place.
We will initiate our journey at El Dorado airport, there we will meet in the morning and take a plane to Puerto Carreño. Once there we will transit the flats for about four and a half hours in a 4×4 vehicle, till we reach Tambora, next to El Tuparro National Park. In order to reach Tambora we will have to take a ferry to cross the rivers Mesetas and Dagua, while we have the chance to see some animals typical from the region and sight some birds. Once in Tambora, we will set up our camp on the golden beaches of the Orinoco river, have a typical meal for lunch, to then, navigate the Orinoco river to the Administrative Center of the Park where we will register and check in, and receive an informative talk from the park officials. In the afternoon we will walk through the Sendero de la Anaconda to then go back to the camp and enjoy the sunset.
In the evening we will have some free time and after dinner we will go to rest.
After breakfast we will navigate the Orinoco river to a place known as Maipures, listed by the German explorer Alexander Von Humboldt as the world’s eighth wonder. In Maipures we will walk through the path of the Atalea, an half –hour hike up to a rock formation where we will observe the imposing flat with its rivers and morichales, as well as the tepuy La Autana n Venezuelan territory. After this hike we will be able to bathe in El Tuparro river and enjoy of its warmth waters.
After lunch, we will ascent to Carestia hill and witness the breathtaking view over the Maipures streams; in our descent we will cross the river in order to reach El Balancin. In the afternoon we will be back to the camp to enjoy a beautiful sunset, rest and have dinner.
In the morning of our third day, we will navigate, for about three hours, the Tomo river until we reach Caño Peinilla; once there, we will go up to El Tepuy from where we will have a panoramic view of the region. After the ascent we will be able to bathe in the river, share with the indigenous and see the petroglyphs carved on stones that have been there for millenniums. Then, we will have lunch and go back to the campsite to enjoy the sunset, have diner and rest.
The last day we will be back to Puerto Carreño, we will navigate the Orinoco River; along the way we will visit the different islands and the water streams. In case the river conditions require it, we will be transfer into a 4×4 vehicle and go down the flats where we can see different rocky formations. On the way, we will go across two creeks, which we will have to cross in a ferry to carry on with our trip until our new destination. Once in Puerto Carreño, we will head to the airport to take the plane back to Bogota, where our journey ends.
