KILIMANJARO EXPEDITION

Embark on one of the most memorable experiences on the African continent: an expedition designed to reach the summit of the majestic Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa. Throughout this journey, you will ascend along trails that traverse tropical forests, high-altitude moorlands, and vast fields of sand and rock, eventually entering the icy atmosphere that surrounds its legendary glacier. Each segment of the route unveils a different landscape and a renewed sense of wonder: the vibrant greenery of the montane forest, the serene, moon-like expanses of the alpine desert, and finally, the overwhelming grandeur of Uhuru Peak, where the sunrise paints the clouds beneath your feet in shades of gold.

EXPEDITION DETAILS

+ Full accommodation throughout the entire trip: five nights in high-mountain refuges on Mount Kilimanjaro and two hotel nights (day 1 in Moshi and day 7 in Arusha).
+ Full meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the Kilimanjaro ascent (meals in the city are not included).

+We recommend arriving in Moshi, Tanzania, two days before the trip (or earlier) to adjust to the new time zone.
+ If you do not have the necessary equipment for the Kilimanjaro ascent, you can rent it there.
+ You do not need prior mountaineering experience to climb Kilimanjaro, but it is important to be in good health, have the proper gear, maintain an acceptable physical condition that allows you to hike between 2 and 12 hours on the longest day, and stay motivated to explore the beautiful landscapes of Africa.

EXPLORE MOUNT KILIMANJARO

ITINERARIO

We will welcome travelers at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Tanzania and transfer them to the hotel in the city of Moshi. There, you will have free time to rest, adjust to the new time zone, and explore the city.

After breakfast, we will be picked up at the hotel and driven to Marangu Gate. There, we will complete the registration process at the national park and begin our hike through the dense tropical rainforest, where we may observe the local vegetation and some primates. Once we arrive at Mandara Hut, we will have time to rest and take a short walk to visit the Mandara Crater, which offers a spectacular view of neighboring Kenya.

The day begins with an early breakfast. Shortly after leaving Mandara Hut, we will reach the upper edge of the forest and then enter the heath and moorland zone. After approximately 4–6 hours of trekking, we will arrive at Horombo Hut, located at an altitude of 3,700 m a.s.l. From the hut, we will enjoy fantastic views of Mawenzi, Kibo, and the vast Masai steppe below.

It will be an acclimatization day that will greatly improve our chances of reaching the summit. After a relaxing breakfast, we will hike for about 4 hours to Zebra Rocks (4,020 m a.s.l.), named for the distinctive black and white stripes on the rock formation. We then return to Horombo Hut to enjoy lunch and a relaxing afternoon.

Our fourth hiking day will be demanding. We will follow a trail that passes two well-known landmarks: the “Last Water Point,” followed by the “Saddle,” a nearly vegetation-free plateau that connects the main summit, Kibo, with Mawenzi. After about six to seven hours of hiking, we will arrive at Kibo Hut. There, we will enjoy an early dinner and get ready to rest.

Today is “the big day”, summit day. We will begin the final ascent around midnight; it will be a long and demanding climb. We will pass Hans Meyer Cave at 5,220 m a.s.l., following a slow but steady ascent. At sunrise, we will reach Gillman’s Point (5,681 m a.s.l.), located on the rim of the Kilimanjaro crater, where the sun will slowly begin to warm the earth. Soon we will forget the cold of the night, and after an additional 1–2 hours of hiking, we will arrive at the highest point on the African continent — the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, or Uhuru Peak in the local language, standing at 5,891 m a.s.l.

We will descend back to Kibo Hut, where a hot meal will be waiting for us, followed by 1–2 hours of rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut.

On this day, we will hike through the heath and moorland zone until reaching Mandara Hut, where we will enjoy a well-deserved lunch. Soon after, we will re-enter the tropical rainforest, and after about 6 hours of hiking, we will arrive back at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate. Here we will say goodbye to our guides, porters, and cooks before returning to our hotel in Moshi to celebrate with a good dinner and a warm, relaxing shower.

We will transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to board our flight back to our home country.

This expedition requires a moderate level of physical fitness, with medium-difficulty hikes on most days. However, summit day is significantly more demanding, involving approximately 12 hours of ascent and descent.

To participate, it is important to be in good physical condition. Having previous experience with multi-day hikes in cold or high-altitude environments will help you feel more confident and better prepared to face the challenges of the expedition.

To prepare for a high-altitude ascent, we recommend maintaining a consistent training routine that includes cardiovascular exercise (such as hiking, running, or cycling), leg and core strengthening, and long walks carrying a backpack. Training at least 3 to 4 times per week in the weeks leading up to the expedition will greatly improve your performance, endurance, and overall comfort during the ascent.

Our team is equipped with satellite communication devices, first-aid kits, and medical oxygen supplies at the high-altitude camps. In addition, we continuously monitor the physical condition of all participants.

In Moshi, it is possible to rent all the high-mountain equipment needed for the expedition.

If you are unable to continue due to health reasons or weather conditions, our team will always prioritize your safety. We will accompany you during the descent, and you will receive the necessary medical attention.
Remember that this expedition includes medical assistance and rescue insurance.
