Reach the highest point of Antioquia on a spectacular journey through the Páramo del Sol. Enjoy one of the best views in the department.
The Páramo del Sol, also known as the Páramo de Frontino, is a mountainous complex located between the municipalities of Urrao, Caicedo, Abriaquí, and Frontino in the southwest of the Antioquia department. It spans an area of approximately 30 square kilometers, with its highest point, Alto Campanas, reaching an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level.
This ecosystem plays a vital role in water production and is home to a diverse range of species, including endangered animals like the Spectacled Bear, which inhabits this magical place. It’s also home to the beautiful frailejones (Espeletia Frontinoensis), endemic plants unique to the páramo that we’ll have the privilege of appreciating here.
The following itinerary outlines a beautiful trek that begins at the lower part of the mountainous complex, ascending through cloud forests to reach the páramo and Alto Campanas (the highest point of Antioquia). From here, we’ll have a spectacular panoramic view of the dense jungle in the Orquídeas National Park and a large portion of the mountains in the Antioquia and Chocó departments.

The ascent will take us through the Proaves Reserve trail, where we’ll observe the misty forest and various bird species native to the area. Along the way, we’ll enjoy a traditional farm-style lunch, wrapped in bijao leaves. After about 6 hours of hiking, we’ll arrive at a spot known as Piedra del Oso, where we’ll set up camp and enjoy the beautiful Páramo del Sol surrounding us. This is a physically demanding expedition. It’s ideal for mountaineers with previous experience in ascents over 4,000 or 5,000 meters. If you’ve done multi-day expeditions in cold and high-altitude conditions, you’ll be better prepared for this challenge.
We recommend a training program of 3 to 6 months, focused on cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, and altitude acclimatization. Activities like mountain hiking, trail running, and cycling are perfect.
Our team is equipped with satellite communication devices, first aid kits, and medical oxygen supplies at high-altitude camps. We also constantly monitor the physical condition of the participants.
You can reserve your spot with a 30% deposit, and the remaining balance should be paid before the expedition starts. Contact us for more details about payment methods.
If you can’t continue due to health or weather reasons, our team will prioritize your safety. We’ll help you descend and make sure you get the necessary medical attention.
Remember, by the time of the expedition, you should have an active medical insurance that covers these types of activities.
